Sopranos set sail
A unique collaboration sees If Opera, one of the UK’s most progressive and exciting opera ensembles, partnering with the SS Great Britain Trust to deliver a dazzling dining performance in Bristol.
The iconic SS Great Britain’s first-class Dining Saloon will be transformed into the stage for an immersive opera, Tales of the SS Great Britain. Guests will be served a specially curated three-course meal while watching a spectacular bespoke performance by the singers and musicians from If Opera and the Bristol Ensemble.
Tales of the SS Great Britain will take place on the 19 July to celebrate the 182nd anniversary of the SS Great Britain’s launch from here in Bristol. The operatic characters are based on real passengers who travelled on board the ship and the beautiful songs have been selected to express their fascinating stories of love and loss at sea.
Mr Brunel himself will also join the celebration to compère the evening’s events.
Andrew Edwards CEO of SS Great Britain Trust said,
“As a passionate Opera enthusiast, I am delighted that we are collaborating with the award-winning If Opera. The dinner performance will take place on the 182nd anniversary of our historic SS Great Britain’s launch date, making it an especially exciting way to celebrate the incredible lives of those who travelled on board. I hope guests will have a unique experience that brings them closer to history through the power of music.”
