Boarding Cards

Step into the shoes of the passengers and crew who lived and worked on the ship with our brand new Boarding Cards. Choose one of 36 characters from the ship’s history and follow in their footsteps, with incredible facts and activities based on the ship’s records and even personal diaries. Wander through an authentic Victorian setting and discover how your character lived. Scan the QR code on the back to access a wealth of information about the people of the SS Great Britain with our Global Stories database.

Introducing the Global Stories project, a huge new database of the passenger and crew members of the SS Great Britain. Three years in the making, it charts the origin and journey of over 30,000 of the ship’s inhabitants. Interact with the database both at Brunel’s SS Great Britain and online to learn more about life on board, and find out if your own ancestors travelled on board the ship.

Meet Costumed Characters

10am - 4.30pm, daily until Sunday 18 February

Included in the price of admission

Meet people from the era as the Ragged Victorians and costumed characters bring the ship and dockyard to life throughout the holiday. The Ragged Victorians will be playing The Gilmour family, steerage passengers that sailed on the SS Great Britain’s first voyage to Australia in 1852.

Extended Archive in Five

11.30am - 2.30pm, Tuesday 13 - Friday 16 February

Free in the Brunel Institute

Join the curators to hear about fascinating items from the collection in extended Archive in Five sessions.

Go Aloft!

12pm - 4pm, daily until Sunday 25 February 

£10 per person

Become a Victorian sailor and climb the huge mainmast of the SS Great Britain. Ascend the rigging to a viewing platform at over 25m above ground level and from there, if you're brave enough, you can step out onto the main yard for a spectacular view of Bristol.
