This December, we welcome you to celebrate a Victorian Christmas with us! From sipping mulled wine to playing in the falling snow, there's so much to enjoy at Brunel's SS Great Britain this festive season. Read on for our top 10 things to do during our Victorian Christmas Weekends.

  1. Spot a Ragged Victorian in the dockyard. From a rat catcher to a drunken sailor, there are plenty of characters to meet.

  2. Enjoy a festive afternoon tea from the café, with a selection of sandwiches, scones and mulled wine. Don’t forget to add one to your booking when you buy tickets online!
  3. Search for Old Father Christmas in the dockyard. If you’re on the nice list, you might even get a chocolate coin.

  4. Learn about Brunel, his ships and the people who travelled on them with our Discovery Talks. Check our What’s on Screens during your visit for availability.
  5. Find the perfect Christmas gift. From a Brunel rubber duck to an exclusive SS Great Britain Christmas jumper, there’s something for everyone in our shop.

  6. Play in the snow! While we might not have any of the real stuff in Bristol this Christmas, our dockyard has been transformed into a winter wonderland for the festive season.

  7. Meet passengers and crew from around the world on our Global Traveller Trail. Based on real people who travelled on board the SS Great Britain, this is a hands-on way of exploring their stories and the ship’s historyCollect your trail upon arrival to start solving the clues!

  8. Enjoy a festive treat from the Night Watchman’s Hut in the dockyard. Get into the festive spirit with mulled wine and a mince pie, or warm up with a delicious hot chocolate.

  9. Sing along to carols with the choirs in our dockyard. We’ll be joined by the Hartcliffe and Withywood community choir on Sunday 12 December, followed by Bristol Voices and Partsong on Sunday 19 December.
  10. Explore the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas on board. As you wander the ship, notice the scent of Christmas pudding and admire the decorations adorning the saloons and cabins.
