In 1838, the first ever engine-powered ship built to cross the world’s oceans was launched from Bristol. Forerunner to the SS Great Britain, pioneer to a new world of communication, mobility and globalisation, this event will explore the story of the Great Western, and the plans of the SS Great Britain Trust to rebuild the ship in full scale.

Join us for an evening with Dr James Boyd, Head of Research at the SS Great Britain Trust, to discover the amazing story of Bristol’s lost ship with this after-hours talk: The Great Western – Bristol Changes the World.

Your Ticket Includes:

  1. Wine and soft drinks on arrival
  2. Talk and Q&A with Dr Boyd about the ship and the museum’s plan for its rebuild
  3. A viewing of rare archival material and objects that survive from the ship’s past
  4. An opportunity to purchase reproductions from the rare collections in print, frame, and canvas.

Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start. Tickets must be bought online in advance.
