National Brunel Network – Activities

The Network normally meets twice a year for discussions and tours at Brunel-related attractions across the UK.

In 2024 the Network held two meetings, the first of which took place in May and was hosted by the Brunel Museum at Rotherhithe. The group held the formal part of the meeting in the atmospheric and historic surroundings of the shaft of the Thames Tunnel, their discussions punctuated by the rumble of Overground trains setting off from Rotherhithe to make the short journey under the River Thames to Wapping. After the meeting network members were able to tour the museum and hear more about its exciting plans for its redevelopment.

The second National Brunel Network meeting was hosted in September by the Briton Ferry Dock group. The formal part of the meeting was held at the Mining Museum at Afan Argoed. During the day, members were also able to see some significant local heritage including the office IK Brunel used in Neath when working on the South Wales Railway, and of course the Briton Ferry Dock itself, where we were also pleased to meet local MP Stephen Kinnock who has been a strong supporter of the campaign to preserve the dock.
