From film productions and tv dramas to factual programming and photoshoots, the SS Great Britain welcomes all enquiries for commercial filming, photography, and location hire. Located in the heart of Bristol’s harbourside the SS Great Britain offers some of the most spectacular scene backdrops in the region.
Locations available:
- A 19th century dockyard complex
- Victorian Grade II listed buildings
- The SS Great Britain, a 19th century historic ship providing various period settings (including an opulent dining room, galley kitchen, engine room, and upper & lower class cabins)
- Versatile conference spaces
- Museum interiors with large public areas (including galleries and a library with spiral staircase)
- Modern office spaces
- Albion Dockyard: a working shipyard, graded II listed dock and industrial warehouses
Facilities include:
- Car park with approx. 150 spaces
- Fully accessible main site (see our Access for All pages for more information)
- Easy access to full utilities (including power, running water, and Wi-Fi)
- Versatile green rooms of varying sizes across site
- On site caterers who can arrange hospitality, especially during out of hours filming
The SS Great Britain Trust is a registered charity which manages Brunel’s SS Great Britain and maintains the collections. The money raised from location fees goes towards the conservation of the heritage items in our collection as well as supporting our other vital charitable work.

We are proud to be a member of the Filming in England Partnership working with Creative England’s Filming in England team, welcoming filming to the SS Great Britain, ensuring cooperation and commitment to assist productions to film on location.
The Filming in England Partnership exists to connect different organisations across England, outside of London, in order to create a film-friendly environment.
