Wardian Cases

For the first time in 150 years plants are back on board the SS Great Britain!
Discover our bespoke Wardian Cases (mini Victorian glasshouses) on the ship’s weather deck and peek inside to view the plants that live within. Victorian steamships played a vital role in the global migration of plants and Wardian Cases were used to transport them around the world.
Don’t miss our newest cabin, based on nurseryman Thomas Lang who used the SS Great Britain to transport precious plant cargo between England and Australia during the 1800s.
