The Nisbet Trust have confirmed to provide a multi-year grant of funding for SS Great Britain Trust’s Golden Ticket Programme showing their continued commitment of support. 

We are delighted to support the Golden Ticket programme which benefits schools, children and their households across Bristol, enabling families to engage with the heritage of their city.   The SS Great Britain provides a rich learning experience, an enjoyable day out and a personal connection to the history of Bristol, guided by the young Golden Ticket holder!

The Golden Ticket Programme engages local schools, pupils and families in educationally deprived areas with the learning and heritage on their doorstep. Every school invited to take part in the Golden Ticket programme is offered a fully funded trip to Brunel’s SS Great Britain, including entry, coach travel, a guided tour and a class workshop. Every child taking part receives a ‘Golden Ticket’ which allows them to return to Brunel’s Great Britain with their household to share their learning and cultural experience, free of charge. 

Since starting the programme in 2011, budget cuts have put many schools under financial pressure. Increasingly school are finding it difficult to afford school trips, leading to a 50% reduction in school trips since 2022, with disadvantaged schools facing cuts of up to 68% (Sutton Trust). This widespread difficulty demonstrates how important the support from organisations such as The Nisbet Trust continues to be.
