The SS Great Britain Trust has won more than 50 awards including ‘Best UK & Ireland Tourism Project’ & ‘Europe’s Most Welcoming Museum'.
The Future Brunels Programme aims to inspire the next generation of Brunels by introducing them to new ideas relating to science, technology, engineering & maths.
Some 20,000 school children visit us each year. The Golden Ticket Programme provides free visits for schools in Bristol that would otherwise not be able to visit.
There are over 6,500 maritime books, 7,300 ship plans, and objects relating to the SS Great Britain, housed in the Brunel Institute which is free to access.
A team of seven conservators took three years to complete the work of restoring the ship. We are constantly working to conserve her and slow down the effects of corrosion.
We are a charity which receives no core government funding. We are privileged to look after the SS Great Britain and Brunel’s legacy.
The current situation has drastically reduced our main source of income, but our duty of care remains. This comes at a significant and ongoing cost.
In 2020 we marked 50 years since the SS Great Britain was rescued from the Falkland Islands and brought back home to Bristol. Now we are facing a very different challenge.
