We are delighted to announce that Being Brunel, the new museum at Bristol’s top-rated visitor attraction, has won ‘Best Public Service Building’ at the Grand Finals of the LABC Awards 2019.

We would like to thank Alec French Architects for their hard work in turning our vision into a reality, Beard Construction our main contactors, and Bristol City Council, who provided Building Control services and supported us throughout the project.

The new museum, which opened in 2018, tells the extraordinary story of hero engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, through never-before-seen personal possessions, as well as interactive exhibits and audio-visual experiences. By preserving Brunel’s legacy in this way, the museum aims to show not only what the man made, but what made the man and what we can learn from his legacy to inspire engineers and innovators of the future.

Brunel’s SS Great Britain has won over 30 major awards and was recently named ‘Europe’s Most Welcoming Museum 2019’ by the prestigious European Museum of the Year Awards. Furthermore – with the addition of Being Brunel in 2018 – the museum was presented with the ‘Best Tourism Project 2018’ by the British Guild of Travel Writers.
