All Hands On Deck Fundraising Campaign Launched
We’re calling on Bristol to do something extraordinary – and we need your help.
We’re aiming to raise £180,000 in just six weeks to complete a transformational new museum experience here at the SS Great Britain.
On 23 February, we closed the doors to our 20-year-old Dockyard Museum to make way for something truly special. If we reach our target, our reimagined museum will open in July 2026. We’ve already secured £1.3 million in investment. Now, we urgently need support from Bristol and beyond to help us cross the finish line.

As part of our urgent All Hands On Deck appeal, we’re inviting brave competitors to take on the ultimate endurance challenge.
The task? Keep your hands on the deck of our legendary ship for longer than anyone else. The last person standing will win a truly money-can’t-buy prize: exclusive access to the SS Great Britain for the party of a lifetime.

Building a Community Hub
Alongside the museum, we’ll be opening a new community hub, a safe and accessible space for local groups to gather, research and host workshops.
This hub will sit at the heart of our community programme, engaging people whose communities were historically impacted by the voyages of the SS Great Britain.
Our ambition is simple: we want this museum to reach every corner of our community.
This is a pivotal moment for us. With your support, we can open our new museum and secure the next chapter in the story of the SS Great Britain.
