Visitors to Brunel’s SS Great Britain can view a working Dry Dock in action following the MV Balmoral’s arrival into the Albion dry dock on 17 April. The historic vessel will undergo an essential repaint and service over the coming weeks.

The Albion Dockyard Company will carry out the vital work on the ship in the SS Great Britain’s neighbouring dry dock. Onlookers are invited to watch the engineering skills and see first-hand the benefits of retaining an operational dry dock within Bristol’s Heritage Harbour.

This vital work was made possible thanks to a £248,318 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund awarded to MV Balmoral and the team. Their successful funding project, “Save MV Balmoral for Bristol and Beyond” is a tribute to the hard work by volunteers, partners and Trustees who have ensured the ship has remained a well-maintained, welcoming asset to Bristol’s floating harbour during its time moored outside the MShed.

The funding will also support MV Balmoral to continue serving its charitable aims as “the People’s Liner” offering inspiring, educational workshops and events on board with a focus on reaching underserved communities in Bristol.

Support the Balmoral by getting involved in their upcoming events including their iconic “Cardboard Boat Race” during Bristol Harbour festival which attracts hopeful teams from across the UK!
