Opening in July 2026, we’re transforming the Dockyard Museum – the essential gateway for every visitor before they step aboard the beautifully restored SS Great Britain. This transformation will bring our content and displays up to date, creating an engaging, inclusive experience that resonates with today’s audiences. Crucially, it will amplify underrepresented voices, especially from the Global Majority and disadvantaged communities, placing them at the heart of our story.

Through bold new design, we’ll bring fresh narratives to life, embedding community-led research into the very fabric of the site. Education will be smarter and more impactful: fewer objects, deeper stories, and a strong focus on relevance, representation, and accessibility. Alongside this, vital repairs and a full refurbishment will breathe new life into the building itself. We look forward to working together on this incredible transformation.

You can be part of this amazing journey by stepping into history and sponsoring a plank which will be part of the walkway in the museum or help us sail by sponsoring a yard of the yard.

You will be recognised for your support in the heart of the new Museum, receive a certificate in thanks and be gifted a ticket welcoming you to the museum once open in Summer next year.

Terms and Conditions

· Sponsorships of the planks and yard are a one off payment to the SS Great Britain Trust.

· By sponsoring an item, it allows no transferral of ownership or rights to the keeping of the item.

· The Museum may move recognition from display temporarily or permanently for essential operational or conservation reasons. You will be notified in advance of any such changes.

· We would like to publicly thank you for your sponsorship, a member of team will be in touch with more details for recognising your support in the Dockyard Museum.

· The recognition may be installed following the initial reopening of the Dockyard Museum, final installation dates will be confirmed with you.
