A Victorian Pissoir

Victorian pissoir

Step back in time to hear Victorian dockworkers spend a penny.

The Great Western Dockyard is filled with the sound of whistling and humming as this soundscape reveals what tunes Victorian dockworkers would have whistled as they popped  to the loo - or Pissoir.

The Pissoir is part of the ss Great Britain Trust’s collection. It is a 130-year old cast-iron latrine, made by James Allen Snr and Son of Glasgow, and was in use well into the twentieth century.
