Join Brunel’s SS Great Britain as the hospitality sector bounces back in 2022. We are recruiting a Sales & Marketing Manager to plan and deliver a sales strategy for weddings and venue hire across our unique harbourside spaces.

JOB TITLE: Sales & Marketing Manager

JOB TYPE: Permanent

SALARY: up to £35,000

HOURS: 40 hours per week, working 5 out of 7 days to suit the needs of the business

REPORTING TO: General Manager


Achieving growth and hitting sales targets by successfully managing the sales process. Designing and implementing a strategic sales plan that expands company’s customer base and ensure its strong presence.


The Sales & Marketing Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies across site to grow business. Delivering innovative solutions to potential clients in line with business objectives, SS Great Britain and Elior UK standards, in order to achieve and maximise targets. Working closely with operations, establish and maintain a committed and engaged team throughout the sales process, to ensure all new business is a commercial success.


  1. Accountable for preparing and presenting excellent sales strategy for SS Great Britain in conjunction with the client and Elior management, to maximise revenue and maintain the venue as the premier events location in Bristol
  2. Preparing sales proposals; that are well written, financially viable and present innovative and appropriate market leading solutions
  3. Accountable for creating a platform for financial growth through pipeline development and creating profitable, solution focussed bids, by working closely with finance and operations
  4. Responsible for reviewing the current market to identify future opportunities for growth
  5. Accountable for establishing and maintain communication networks with all relevant bodies associated with the business and industry market; e.g. Facilities Management Companies and Consultants
  6. Accountable for ensuring bids appropriately account for COSHH, Food Safety, H&S, legal regulations, environmental policies, Covid Guidelines and duty of care to customers and colleagues
  7. Accountable for establishing key relationships with corporate clients and agencies to ensure maximum exposure and increase revenue
  8. Ensure key agents with override agreements are account managed and that all bookers are aware of the facilities
  9. Be aware of the key trends in the market and take appropriate action
  10. Have extensive knowledge of competitor venues and what business is booking into the area
  11. Liaise with the clients on a day to day basis to obtain new sales leads and ensure that the venue can get more business
  12. Encourage full usage of all facilities in the venue to maximise sales
  13. Carry out telephone sales calls to sell the facilities
  14. Ensure that all communications with customers are handled within the required time frame and to the company standards
  15. Attend venue and department meetings
  16. Be aware of and adhere to company policies
  17. Ensure that the Manager given accurate information for billing
  18. Have full product knowledge of the facilities offered
  19. Produce and set the sales strategy with SSGB, Elior Operations Manager and GM
  20. Be pro-active in putting forward suggested actions to achieve the department’s targets
  21. Respond to telephone, written and in person enquiries regarding hiring Venue facilities.
  22. Undertake site tours with clients, and make recommendation on the most suitable area(s) for their event, and follow-up with summary and quote in writing. Ensure Catersoft is kept up to date and accurate with full details
  23. Maintain and update client files to ensure all accounting and booking procedures are in place. Prepare and present monthly reports for SSGB and Elior.
  24. Work closely with colleagues to ensure client bookings do not clash with internal programmes and correctly input bookings into the electronic booking system.
  25. Liaise with colleagues, clients and contracted suppliers and performers to plan events effectively and obtain necessary risk assessments and insurance documentation in advance
  26. Ensure company policy is followed to ensure that events are paid in advance
  27. To act as Duty Officer and take the lead in ensuring smooth running of events and oversee functions if necessary
  28. Conduct regular operations meeting with the catering team to plan and ensure smooth running of forthcoming events
  29. Maintain a bank of suitable images and client testimonials to use for publicity purposes
  30. To work with site management team to renew relevant licenses well in advance of expiry; make and process applications to the Council for temporary extensions to late license on behalf of clients
  31. Use social media to promote and raise awareness of venue hire opportunities at the venue
  32. Meets marketing and sales financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analysing variances; initiating corrective actions
  33. Determines annual and gross-profit plans by forecasting and developing annual sales quotas for regions; projecting expected sales volume and profit for existing and new products; analysing trends and results; establishing pricing strategies; recommending selling prices; monitoring costs, competition, supply, and demand
  34. Identifies marketing opportunities by identifying consumer requirements; defining market, competitor’s share, and competitor’s strengths and weaknesses; forecasting projected business; establishing targeted market share
  35. Improves product marketability and profitability by researching, identifying, and capitalizing on market opportunities; improving product packaging; coordinating new product development


As Sales & Marketing Manager we look for the following:

  1. Experience of managing a successful sales function
  2. Relevant sales experience within the historic venues market
  3. A strong sales background with exceptional interpersonal skills
  4. A strategic individual with detailed commercial acumen and a real hunger to achieve
  5. 3+ years sales experience in the hospitality industry
  6. Experience of month end report writing for board
