Job title: Marketing Assistant – Fixed term for 12 months

Hours: Full time 36.25 hours per week

Salary: Circa £20,000

Reporting to: TBC

Purpose of job: Support the Marketing Coordinator to deliver the Trust’s marketing activity by working flexibly on a range of marketing and communications tasks including social media, print and website updates.

Location: Bristol, United Kingdom. This job is temporarily remote due to Covid-19.

Main tasks

  • Work with the Marketing Team to deliver marketing campaigns for Brunel’s SS Great Britain, the Brunel Institute, café, retail, education, interpretation, and other areas of the business.
  • Assist in the implementation of creative and targeted campaigns across channels including consumer PR, advertising, publications, media relations, broadcast and video.
  • Work with the Social & Digital Marketing Coordinator with digital marketing campaigns and content creation for the Trust’s online platforms as required.
  • Support as required to promote events and activities through PR, listings, events, campaigns, and partnerships.
  • Assist the Communications team with organising familiarisation press trips, events and tours as required.
  • Coordinate the Trust’s wide-ranging print and publications schedule with other teams, review and monitor deadlines with the Marketing Team. Organise on-site storage.
  • Take minutes in marketing meetings and distribute actions and agendas.
  • Support the team to manage images and video including cataloguing.
  • Respond to a range of requests and enquiries including advertising, media and filming requests. Coordinate and monitor the advertising delivery plan.
  • Undertake other duties as could be reasonably required to assist in the smooth and efficient running of the department, including some evening and weekend work.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications:

  • Ideally educated to degree level in a relevant subject.
  • Further training or experience in marketing or PR desirable


  • Excellent project and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage own, and team, workload.
  • Strong copy and proof-reading skills.
  • Customer-focused, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-starter, with initiative and enthusiasm and a flexible positive ‘can-do ’approach.
  • An understanding of graphic design, video editing and S.E.O


  • Previous experience in a role coordinating deadlines and working on multiple projects, ideally in a marketing environment.
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders such as different departments in an organization and/or creative agencies and printers.


  • IT proficient, with good knowledge of Microsoft packages, particularly Word and Excel, as well as In-Design and e-newsletter platforms.
  • Interest and understanding of the full range of marketing channels and how they can be used to meet objectives.
  • Enthusiasm for the SS Great Britain Trust’s work and product.
