Reporting to: Head Chef

Responsible for: Kitchen Team members
 
Liase with: Head of Catering and Events
 
Main purpose: To deliver the established Aims and Objectives of the SS Great Britain Trust by supporting the Head Chef in delivering a consistent and exceptional high quality Catering operation.
Salary: £10.25 per hour
 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To deliver the highest standard of food preparation and service.
  • To assist in the development of menus with credentials for locally sourced, seasonal fresh ingredients that fit within the competitive Bristol food scene and to successfully deliver these menus for visitors. To work closely with the Head chef in the delivery of these new menus.
  • Working with the Head chef to maintain the stock at the agreed levels and to manage the paperwork appropriate to that stock.
  • To ensure that all food is prepared and cooked to the correct standards, that the quantities are consistent and in keeping with the agreed costings and all dishes are presented correctly.
  • To assist in the delivery of the baked on-site products including cakes, scones and savoury items
  • Ensure that all kitchens and catering areas are kept to a high standard of tidiness and cleanliness at all times and that all statutory regulations including health and safety, hygiene and licensing requirements are upheld
  • Working with the Head of Chef, to provide high quality satellite catering for external and internal Events as required.
  • To work with the Head Chef in the delivery of new menu ideas and costings
  • To lead the kitchen teams in the absence of the Head chef.

Person Specification

Skills:

  • Chef qualification or relevant catering training
  • Hospitality skills including customer interaction skills.
  • Confident with articulate communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, costings and paperwork.
  • Team leadership and motivational skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage own workload as well as delegate and help others to prioritise and manage workloads.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with a flexible and can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the success of the overall organisation.

Experience:

  • Catering experience.
  • Experience of working in a similar role, ideally in a similar organisation.

Knowledge:

  • IT proficient with good knowledge and experience of Microsoft packages.
  • Knowledge of food and first-class food service.
