Head to Brunel’s SS Great Britain this May half-term and enjoy plenty of family-fun activities.
Become a ship's stoker (Every day):
A good night’s sleep follows a day’s hard graft. Kids can dress up and take on the coal shovelling challenge on the dockside to see if they have what it takes to be a stoker on the SS Great Britain.
Explore the Engine with Mr. Brunel (Every day, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm):
Get fired up and explore the beating heart of Brunel’s iconic ship with fascinating new talks from the engineer himself. Discover how Brunel’s innovative engine powered the biggest and fastest ship of her day.
Spot 'smoke' from the ship's funnel (Every day):
For the first time in 140 years, witness the spectacle of “smoke” billowing from the ship’s funnel.
Special Extended Archive in Five (Tuesday-Saturday, 11.30pm-1.30pm)
Join the curators and get up close to rare, engine-themed artefacts from the vault.
More to see on the harbour:
From 27 – 29 May, take a steam train ride on the Bristol Harbour Railway from MShed and arrive at Brunel’s SS Great Britain in style. The world’s oldest steam tug, the Mayflower, will also be moored on Brunel Square from Tuesday 30 May - Thursday 1 June from 11am to 2pm.
All special events are in addition to exploring the ship, Dry Dock and Dockyard Museum, and are included in the usual admission price (unless otherwise stated).
