With over 600 passengers and crew aboard the SS Great Britain, illness and injury were an inevitable part of a long voyage at sea. It was the responsibility of the ship’s surgeon to deal with any accidental injuries and to ensure that the ship was clean and free from contagious diseases.

Join us to learn about the men who worked to keep passengers healthy and well. Discover who they were, what tools they had at their disposal and hear their accounts of the incidents, accidents, births and deaths that regularly occurred during the long voyages between England and Australia.
