Discover the story of the Great Western Dockyard.
Starting with the origins of the Great Western Steamship Company’s first ship, the SS Great Western and how it paved the way for the SS Great Britain, this talk focuses on the Great Western Dockyard, a pioneer of the integrated dockyard.
Learn how the process of building the revolutionary ship led to the construction of the dockyard, an overview of the ships working life and what happened to the dockyard after the Great Western Steamship Company collapsed. There will also be a chance to find out how the new Being Brunel museum will bring this area to life and transform the Dock Office.
Talks will last approximately 20 minutes.
