Find out what life was like on board the ss Great Britain as a crew member, with a volunteer led talk.

Hold Fast! A Victorian sailor risked his life every day at sea.

Attend this talk to learn how sailors worked - and survived - on board the ss Great Britain. Find out how many men shared one bucket of fresh water a week, what they were expected to do on board, what they were given to eat and how they spent their limited free time. Get a sense of what sleeping in the forecastle, at the very front of the ship, might have been like.

Would you have worked on the ss Great Britain

Talks will last approximately 20 minutes.
