The Trust

The ss Great Britain Trust, registered as a charity in 1971, conserves the ship and places her on public display for the benefit of all.

The Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees, elected from the Trust’s members. The Board has ultimate responsibility for the ship, her collections and for the organisation’s work.

The Trust’s Director, Matthew Tanner (MBE), is responsible to the Board for pursuing strategic goals and for the day-to-day activities of the Trust.

The Trust employs 45 staff, supported by 50 volunteers, in five keys areas:

  • Curatorial and Education Services
  • Visitor Services and Events
  • Development and Communication
  • Technical and Conservation Services
  • Finance and Human Resources

The Board of Trustees establishes the policies which inform all aspects of the Trust’s work.
