The success now enjoyed by the ss Great Britain Trust would not have been possible without the generosity of many who supported the “Anchor Campaign”. Between 2002 and 2006 this fundraising campaign raised the £12 million needed to conserve the ship and revitalise both the ship and her historic dockyard.
With support from the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Millennium Commission and a great many charitable trusts, companies and individuals, the Trust reached the target, and ‘re-launched’ the ship in July 2005.
Since then, visitor numbers leapt to 200,000 p. a. (130% increase) and the Trust has been honoured with fourteen major awards [link to awards] including UK Museum of the Year 2006 and Enjoy England’s Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2007.
