Discharge Certificate and Certificate of Character for Great Britain crew member John Helm, 1865
The Trust supports research into the ss Great Britain and the people and technologies associated with her.
It is committed to preserving the ship and the original dockyard where she was built and now rests, so future generations may visit to enjoy and learn from her.
It works collaboratively with other museums and institutions to make collections and archives relating to Brunel and his work, and of the history and evolution of shipbuilding and design available to the public.
It is working towards creating major new library and archive facilities, which will be accessible and open to all potential users, as part of the Brunel Institute development, scheduled to open in 2010.
Meanwhile, if you have a question about the collections, or would like access for research purposes please contact the curatorial team online or by calling 0117 926 0680. It would help if you could give as much detail as you can about your requirements.
The Trust keeps as much as possible of its collection on display at all times. However, some light-sensitive or fragile material is kept in store and is viewable by appointment.
Please note that the Trust holds limited information on the ss Great Britain’s crew and passengers. It can offer only limited help with some genealogical queries.
