"The audio really made the scenes on the ship come alive, especially the one where the man was going to have one of his fingers cut off.
My little sister has been talking about it ever since. We also loved being on deck and going underneath the glass. It was amazing." Oliver, aged 11

Step back in time
Children (and adults!) love stamping their tickets as they pass through each time gate on the journey back in time through the Dockyard Museum. Try your hand at raising the massive 5 metre tall propeller using Griffiths amazing screw lifting frame.
Have a go at steering the virtual ship, trying on the Victorian hats and climbing the maintop, to experience what it must have been like for the ss Great Britain’s sailors.
Once on board the ship, children can experience what life was like for Tom, the Cook’s boy and Florence travelling to Australia with her mother in the 1850s. It’s great fun swapping notes with other members of the family who have taken different audio tours.
“The talking toilet made me laugh and jump. Fab day out” Bryony, Derby
Using the simple audio companion, try to spot Sinbad, the ship’s cat. Smells bring the Victorian experience to life, including vomit, and don’t forget to find the talking toilet!
New for 2008 is the Riggers’ Yard, undercover picnic area behind the Dockyard Museum, with its Victorian masts and extensive waterfront seating. Find out more about facilities.
"I don't want to leave, I want to live here!" Fergus, aged 6
Brunel’s daring design
Go under the glass ‘sea’ to understand the scale of Brunel’s creation that voyaged 32 times around the world, touch the giant propeller, feel the air pumping out of the massive ducts, and find out how state-of-the-art technology is protecting the ship.
Award winning attraction
Brunel’s ss Great Britain is a multi award-winning attraction – named England’s Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2007 – providing a stimulating and fun day for all the family.
