STEWARD Bob Evans, from Brunel’s ss Great Britain, has won the gold award for ‘outstanding customer service’ and named as the overall ‘winner of winners’ at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards. |
Bob, or ‘Captain Bob’ as he is affectionately known, is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of customer care for venue hire guests at the great ship.
The awards are run in association with Enjoy England Awards for Excellence, First Great Western and South West Water. They celebrate ‘the best in the South West’ and aim to promote and reward the very best in the tourism industry through a rigorous and independent judging process.
As a gold winner Bob is automatically put forward to the national awards, the Enjoy England Excellence Awards, which are to be held on April 23 in York.
Malcolm Bell, Chief Executive of South West Tourism, said: “The winners of this year’s South West Tourism Excellence Awards are truly deserving of this accolade. Not only have they ensured their physical product is of the highest standard, but in what is essentially a ‘people industry’ they have ensured that their customer service and staff training are exemplary.”
In presenting the ‘winner of winners’ award, Mr Bell referred to Bob as ‘a beacon’ in an industry where hospitality and customer care is at the heart of business success.
Matthew Tanner MBE, Director of the ss Great Britain Trust, said: “Bob Evans has a special touch, which is rare. Our clients know that he has their interests truly at heart and he ensures that all guests have a wonderful experience on board ship.
“To have such a consistent flow of congratulatory letters from people who come to functions on board is quite remarkable, and they all mention Bob. In my working career I have not seen its equal.”
Mr Tanner added: “All the team are keeping their fingers crossed for Bob for the national awards next Spring.”
