Brunel’s ss Great Britain is one of the most accessible historic ships in the world.

The Good Access Guide includes a plan of the site and recommended routes. To ensure historical authenticity, a few areas are more difficult to access. Where this is the case, alternative access routes and facilities are provided.

General Facilities

  • There is lift access into the dry dock, the Dockyard Museum and on board the ss Great Britain.
  • On the ss Great Britain there is lift access in the funnel to all decks.
  • The lifts can accommodate one person in a wheelchair and one assistant, or three people standing. Each lift is different, please check instructions carefully.
  • There are disabled toilets on the ground floor of the Dockyard Museum, on the ship and by the Dockyard Cafe Bar.
