A legacy in your will?

Isambard Kingdom Brunel's legacy lives on at the ss Great Britain. Could you leave a legacy to safeguard the ship's future?

Leaving a gift to the ship in your Will is one of the most significant and meaningful ways to show your support. A gift in your Will is a tremendous way to ensure that future generations can visit and learn from Brunel’s ss Great Britain.

Legacies are a vital source of support for the ss Great Britain Trust charity since they contribute to long term financial stability. They can also be a valuable way of reducing the potential inheritance tax liability on your estate, because legacies to a registered charity such as the ss Great Britain Trust are tax-free.

The Trust has developed a conservation and restoration programme that could secure the future of the ship for the next 100 years.

However, conservation is an ongoing process, and it costs over £1 million each year to conserve the ship and keep her on public display.  The ss Great Britain Trust has recently established a permanent endowment investment fund, the regular income from which will help meet the long term costs of maintaining the ship to the high standards expected by the public.  Legacies will help the fund grow to the size required to pay for essential works, and offer donors a genuinely serve and long-lasting impact for their gift.

Making a Will, or adding a codicil to your existing Will, can seem daunting. That is why the ss Great Britain Trust has produced a useful printed guide. If you would like to speak to someone in confidence about leaving a legacy to the ss Great Britain Trust, or would like to receive a free copy of the guide, call 0117 926 0680 ext.212 and we will be pleased to talk with you.
